“The Man Who Died Twice” by Richard Osman

“The Man Who Died Twice” is another murder mystery novel by Richard Osman and is a sequel to “Thursday Murder Club” that I mentioned in my previous post. I liked the first novel so much that I immediately jumped into reading the second one.

In this story, we are facing again our group of retirees – Elizabeth, Ibrahim, Ron, and Joyce – who are faced with another interesting case. Elizabeth is contacted by her ex-husband Douglas, also a spy who works for M15, who is now under M15 protection over the case of the stolen diamonds. Douglas and the M15 team investigated one of the influential dealers in England and during one of such raids on his house, a bag of diamonds worth many many millions disappeared. Now diamonds are nowhere to be found, Douglas denies theft and is wanted by influential criminals. As Douglas is found dead one day, the story gets more and more unpredicated.

I liked this book a lot, perhaps even more than the first novel. I think the author’s writing really improved and the mysteries got more intricate and layered in this sequel. I enjoyed it thoroughly and it is again a strong recommendation if you would like to give it a try. There is not much more to say besides a funny quote that I found in the book! Have fun!

“You must die before your children, of course, because you have taught them to live without you. But not your dog. You teach your dog only to live with you.”
