“We Solve Murders” is a new detective series from Richard Osman, the author of “Thursday Murder Club” which I read this year and really loved. I saw this book in one of the bookstores in Rotterdam and thought that it would be a great Christmas read without being too heavy. I found the book to be a page-turner but I think I still preferred “Thursday Murder Club” series.
“We Solve Murders” focuses on two main characters – Amy Wheeler, a young woman who works as a bodyguard for a high-profile agency, and her father-in-law, a retired cop living in a retired home community in England. When the most high-profile money launderer in the world, Francois Loubet, attempts to kill Amy, Amy, and Steve join forces to solve three murders that seem unrelated and to find out and reveal the identity of the master thief.
I liked the writing style of the book – it was easy to follow and pleasant to read. It also gave me similar vibes to the “Thursday Murder Club”. One thing that I found strange is the relationship between Amy and Steve (I mean it is great that they have a good relationship as father and daughter-in-law) but Steve’s son is barely present in the whole story. However, I find the chemistry of “Thursday Murder Club” just slightly better as if all the pieces are in place. Let’s see what the sequel of this series is going to bring.

“When you arrest someone, you generally get two different types of reaction. Some people kick and scream all the way to the cells, while others go quietly, knowing the game is up. Who knows when your own game will be up? When you’re standing on that platform and the train derails? Whenever it might be, Steve intends to go quietly.”

It was a lovely book so definitely worth a read if you are looking for something light-hearted and exciting.
