The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer

The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer is one of my favourite reads in 2017. I think one of the most important takeaways from it for me was about surrendering to the flow of life as there is a universal wisdom that puts you in the right place at the right time.

Actually, the book has a few points that caught my attention and that I found enlightening for me.

1. About the Inner Voice

Did you ever wonder about that voice inside your head that you are constantly conversing with?

Singer mentions that that exact voice that often talks you out of surrendering to the life’s flow. Imagine that you have to do something that you are scared of or you are not comfortable doing. Most likely, when you hear it, you first thought will be “I can not do it”. And this is what that inner voice inside your head is telling you.

But, Singer suggests to give a try to avoid listening to that voice and try to surrender to the flow of life. This only means surrendering to the flow of life as though you are accepting the life’s flow and adapting to it in your very best way.

2. Singer’s Amazing Story

Singer gives deep insights into the surrender experiment through his own life. He, himself, is a representation of where the spiritual journey of meditation and surrendering to life’s flow can lead you. Starting as a yogi who left to meditate in the forest and ending up as a CEO of a huge tech-company, Singer follows the flow of life instead of resisting it and let’s the voice in his head to just be.

(Here, let me not reveal too much so as not to kill your desire to read this book).

3. I quote that I found beautiful to summarize the essence of the book:

How could I possibly explain the great freedom that comes from realizing to the depth of your being that life knows what it is doing? Only direct experience can take you there. At some point there’s no more struggle, just the deep peace that comes from surrendering to a perfection that is beyond your comprehension. Eventually, even mind stops resisting, and the heart loses the tendency to close. The joy, the excitement, and freedom are simply too beautiful to give up. Once you are ready to let go of yourself, life becomes your friend, your teacher, your secret lover. When life’s way becomes your way, all the noise stops, and there is a great peace.

Give it a try.
