“To Sir Philip, With Love” is one of the books from the Bridgeton series written by Julia Quinn. I learned about the Bridgeton series from the Netflix show – there is also apparently a third season coming soon – and for some reason, it has crossed my mind recently.
I read this book in one day and mostly because I was quite sick and needed a distraction. I was in so much pain that I could not sleep so this was a perfect fit for my state: it soaked me in and kept me entertained for the day providing enough distraction to forget the pain.
“To Sir Philip, With Love” focuses on Eloise Bridgeton, one of the younger siblings who is known to have her own opinions, believe in women’s rights, and not want to have a husband. As you could guess, this story focuses exactly on her finding one. I am not going to go into too much detail to not ruin the plot for you in case this book is something that you would like to give a try. One thing that I kept on thinking about is how on-screen Eloise in the Netflix show was written, cast, and played so much better than the one in the book. I feel like in the show, she had so much more depth and emotion to her and this is why I was excited to read her story. Perhaps, I expected the book to be closer to the screen story but it came short for me. Overall, it is an okayish read with some spicy scenes here and there (perhaps one too many) if you are looking for some lightweight reading and distraction. There is not much more that I can say about it.
